Biotechnology is one of
the most dynamically developing areas of modern science and acts as a strategic
platform that ensures the mutual integration of scientific research and
industrial production. This chapter comprehensively analyzes the scientific and
technological foundations of biotechnology, its applications in industry,
healthcare, agriculture, and ecological systems, as well as its future
development trends. The author evaluates the key directions playing a
fundamental role in the development of biotechnology—genetic engineering,
synthetic biology, bioinformatics, nanobiotechnology, and bioenergetics—within
scientific and economic contexts. Furthermore, the contribution of
biotechnology to sustainable development goals (SDGs), its role in environmental
protection, and the formation of the bioeconomy are emphasized. Issues such as
the deepening of cooperation between science and industry, the application of
artificial intelligence, the efficient use of biological resources, and the
strengthening of ethical responsibility are identified as the main directions
of future biotechnological systems. Consequently, biotechnology has become an
important component of the innovative economy and scientific progress in the
21st century, acquiring the status of a global priority area for improving
human well-being, health, food security, and preserving ecological balance.
