This study aimed to instill the value of tolerance in 8th-grade students through stories from Mevlâna's "Masnavi" in Turkish language lessons. The research was conducted with experimental and control groups comprising a total of 40 students studying at a private school in Antalya during the 2022-2023 academic year. Using an experimental design, one story from the "Masnavi" was read to the experimental group each week for eight weeks, and these stories were discussed in class. No intervention was applied to the control group. The "Tolerance Attitude Scale" developed by Taş (2018) was used to measure the students' tolerance levels in the study. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to both the experimental and control groups at the beginning and end of the intervention. The analysis of the data revealed a significant increase in the post-test scores of the experimental group compared to their pre-test scores, while no such change was observed in the control group. This finding indicates that the "Masnavi" stories were effective in improving the students' attitudes toward tolerance. The findings of the study showed that demographic factors, such as gender and parental education level, did not significantly influence the students' tolerance levels. While the experimental group demonstrated a notable improvement in their tolerance attitudes, no similar development was observed in the control group. The study highlighted the effectiveness of using literary works in value education within Turkish language lessons and emphasized the positive impact of such stories on students' social and emotional development. In conclusion, the study underscored the significant role of Mevlâna's "Masnavi" stories as a powerful tool for instilling the value of tolerance. It recommended implementing similar value education practices across different age groups and disciplines. Moreover, it suggested incorporating such literary works into textbooks and applying them to larger student groups to expand the scope of value education. These findings provide valuable insights into developing educational approaches that support children's social and emotional development.
