Methanol intoxication is a global health problem resulting in mortality and morbidity. In a patient diagnosed with methanol intoxication as a result of consumption of illegally produced alcohol, ethanol was administered as an alternative since fomepizole was not available. In addition, haemodialysis was applied to the patient with clinically significant high anion gap metabolic ascites, and the treatment was performed successfully and rapidly. Essential aspect in the management of methanol intoxication is to recognise the clinical signs and symptoms well and to make an early diagnosis by accelerating the necessary investigations with a strong suspicion. At this point, treatments to prevent metabolism of methanol to its metabolites should be initiated rapidly. Intermittent or continuous haemodialysis is also an effective treatment method in patients with critical or predicted deterioration.
