Juvenile
idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is an illness which begins before the age of 16 and
is characterized by arthritis in the same joint for at least six weeks. JIA is a
diagnosis considered after other causes of arthritis have been ruled out.
Cardiac symptoms in JIA may vary according to the region affected by
inflammation. In some patients, symptoms consistent with the inflammation of
the pericardium, which is one of the serous membranes, may appear, while in
another patient group, the coronary arteries or the conduction system of the
heart may be affected. In
our article, JIA subtypes are described and their cardiac involvements are
determined.
